That's basically the same way I use the light-metering on my D3. Doesn't the lighter areas end up over-exposed, or are you just careful to light up the face enough? Cheers
The Metering is spot, Manual mode, with a 39" deep Octa on a strobe with one diffusion panel - it's a very even and smooth light - Don't usually have a problem with anything blowing out.
